Listener Questions:

1.    Mason O Writes:

So i just bought a WE scar gbb and I’m loving it. I’m loving it so much it fact that i began to wonder “why doesn’t everyone use these?”  I mean gas blowbacks are as realistic as it gets, much simpler to repair and upgrade and have a tendency to be sturdier and longer lasting than AEGs. so why did they fall out of style? I know people who claim to be or at least try very hard to be hardcore milsim types, but they just don’t want a gbb rifle. some problems like, the price of gas and effects of cold weather i understand, but ive heard of ways around both. (like CO2 being better in the cold) what do you think? .

2. Erik Writes:

Why doesn’t anyone do an airsoft podcast where players talk about their games? I find that the best part of most of the podcasts I’ve listen to is when people actually talk about there experience IN the game. I mean the gear is great, the training is rad, but the best part is when people have some AWESOME game story! Like the episode when one of you two threw a grenade and it feel a tad short and blew up but never hit anyone, or when one of you didn’t change your mag and ended up being killed and so on. Bring the awesome!

Airsoftology Episode #26: “24/7/365″

January 12th, 2010

Open 24 Hours

Jonathan and Steve have made it to the 1 year mark, and have a great show full of news, rumors, questions and reviews…  And if you are looking for the video version, it’s coming soon.  They had been delaying this post as we are still working out the video kinks, but we wanted to get the post and audio up and not keep you waiting.  Keep checking back as they’ll have the video version very soon.

Patches: You better hurry if you have been holding out, the store has less than 10 sets left.  Once they are gone, they are gone… and there will be new designs in their place.

Informative with a touch of humor; they break down the news, reviews and questions that you want to hear.

News:

1. The “PimpMyGun” site has a new version out , and it has ton of new models and options.  We still find ourselves spending hours at a time there building our next AEG or just wasting time…  Thanks a bunch Dr. Noob!

2. EBairsoft.com has something every Modern Warfare 2 fan would want on the field, a Task force 141 fleece jacket; just like SOAP and Roach wear on the winter missions. No news on price or availability just yet, as it’s still coming soon.

3. The WE H&K 416 is finally available for order at redwolfairsoft.com. And it sold out as fast as it went up…here’s the link so you can see what you missed out on.

4. SRC has their 2010 catalog out now and a few things caught our eye.  They have GBB Mp5s, AKs and G36s on the way, have upgraded their mechboxes (Gen 3) and (If we’re reading it right) have a V2 compatible CO2 M4 series. Check it out here, but be warned it’s a HUGE download.

5.  The Socom Gear version 2 Barrett is the next generation of their affordable M82 replica,  and is available for preorder at Redwolf.  It looks like there are many improvements over the first version, but a bigger price comes along with it as well.  But, you get a signed letter from Mr. Barrett himself!

6. Classic Army is finally back at making their M24’s. But, they are now the “enhanced version” which are shooting much harder out of the box (440-460 FPS)!  Looks like AirsoftGI has them ready to order now.

As always, a BIG thanks to our Roving Airsoft Reporters this week:

- Alex Kong (aka the Canadian RAR), Ryan Limpus, and Eric Fine

Review

If you are looking for a new AEG to add to your arsenal, you should keep the KWA KM16 SR-12 on the lop of your list.  Jonathan and Steve take a look at this high-end AEG that sports LiPo ready internals, a machined 12” rail system and 420+ fps out-of-the-box performance.  Listen in and see why they both agree that this DMR is definitely worth the $395 price tag.

Airsoft Vocabulary

This show’s word is: Clearsofter.

Basically it’s anyone that rolls out to the local field or backyard with nothing more than a clear airsoft gun from the local discount chain store…but it could also double for anyone that shoots the cheaper clear colored bbs if you want to stretch the meaning.

While it can be mistaken as a broad derogatory label for a new player, it’s more of a general classification of a player in the early life-cycle of airsoft…and trust us, we’ve been sent packing back to respawn by our share of clearsofters.

Listener Segment

1. Robert Irwin (RAR) writes in: Since it’s year end, I wanted to share my top 3 from 2009:  My number one was the groundzero weekender ‘09. My second would be the release and purchase of the AGM sten gun. Lastly since I started in December 08 this has been my first full year of airsoft so that is also brilliant.

2. Listener Andrew sent us a great music video for anyone who likes guns, and you have got to watch it all the way through to the end for the really heavy artillery. The artist’s site can be found here.

3. RAR Alex writes:  Hey guys I was listening to you guys talk about the blow back on the G36k (Tokyo Marui) and how it can’t be disabled. But I was watching the Redwolf video on how to disassemble the gun and looked closer at the blow back. Don’t quote me on this but it looks like you can disable the blowback. Also he sent us some really funny pics…we’ll get them p on the facebook page ASAP.

Airsoftology Episode #12: “Spudrific!”

June 30th, 2009

Episode #12 out a bit late and we hope it was worth the wait.  This episode brings some changes and some show firsts as well, including our very first in studio guest.

But first: Sadly, we must bid Chris a fond farewell from the show as his work as a airsoft tech has totally eaten into his free time. Something had to give, and it had to be the time involved in making the show.  I guess when you are as good at what you do as he is, you have to go where the money is. But fear not, I have a feeling we’ll be seeing (or hearing) him in some future episodes.

If you want to track him down and send your gushing fanmail, you can find him at www.nashvilleairsoft.com or at his email: mechboxmechanic@gmail.com.

Ok, now to the good news.

We now have a great new addition to the Airsoftology team!  Steve officially joins the cast.  In the next few weeks we’ll get his bio up on this site and info on how to reach him on the web.  We’ll get him plugged in and answering emails really soon too.  Until then, send anything you want him to answer to the show email and we’ll make sure he reads it.

Speaking of email, we’re really behind now, but we’re catching up.  If you have sent something to the show recently, we promise we’re reading them. Keep them coming!

Finally on the topic of the show, we are in the final stages of rolling out a live listening option.  We’re beta testing it for #13, and if all goes well you should see it live for all to join on #14.  Keep an eye on the site, we’ll be announcing how to join in live very soon.  Space is limited.

Informative with a touch of humor; we break down the news, gear reviews and tech tips that you want to hear.

Show Notes:

News

 - Looks like WE has a new GBB rifle on the way, the SCAR.  Evike.com has for preorder and it looks to take existing WE M4 mags as well.

- JG has a new, affordable, tracer unit on the horizon.  At about $30 US it might be worth the investment.

- ICS’ new Galil looks promising, and it even has a working thumb fire selector. RATECH has the lowdown on their youtube channel here.

- CA has an army of new guns out or releasing very soon.  You can find all the info at Classic Army’s site  or if you are a US customer at Spartan Imports’ coming soon page.  Speaking of Spartan Imports, they sure know their target market.  If you want to see the “red tank top” Dragunov video we reference in the show, you only have to click right here.

- KSC has a release date for their new MP7 GBB submachine gun and while it looks very cool, you better bring the money.  With a preorder price $350 plus another $60 per magazine, it gets expensive quick.

Reviews

- Jonathan’s back form his trip to California, USA and he has seen the promised land!  He reviews Airsoft GI in the show’s very first retailer review and they get a 10/10.  A big thanks to their super-tech Anthony for showing him around the shop.  If you’re in the market for anything Airsoft related (and they have just about everything imaginable) or need tech work done, look him and the team at Airsoft GI up.

- Whave the only prototype of the new SOCOM Barrett M82 AEG in studio for a hands on first look.  After we wipe away the drool, we realize that a gym membership might be in our future for this VERY realistic 27 pounds  monster. But hey, you have to make sacrifices if you want something this cool.  The AirsoftGI video review (with a funny outtake at the end) is available here.

Tech Tips

This week we forgo the tech tip for a super-geeky look into the world of Clark Shell (aka Neospud).  Best known for his work in high-end potato cannons, he’s ported his talents to the airsoft world and has developed his very own airsoft “flamethrower”.

Built from his own design, he tells us what when into the initial prototype and where the project is today.  If 115 bb’s a second at 400fps doesn’t get your interest, I’m not sure what will.  Even if you skip everything else, you can’t miss this.

You can find Clark at his site www.neospud.com and on youtube under the Neospud channel.
