Airsoftology Episode #16: “The Dynamic Duo?”

August 24th, 2009

pinky_and_the_brain

Tim’s out for this show (again!) but this time he’s not feeling well, so he gets a pass.  No worries, Steve and Jonathan go it solo….er…Duo?  Listen in and hear the  guys cover the past 2 week’s airsoft news, tips and rumors!

We know we keep saying we want to hear from you, and you are sending us some good stuff! But…it’s time we raised the stakes a bit. We have our own Airsoftology logo patches finally in stock!  Keep an eye to the top bar and you’ll see the ways you can help the show, and get some swag in return.

You can also send us a good voicemail, make a show segment, or write that awesome email that tells everyone the ultimate airsoft secret and we’ll send you something in return, too. We especially like callers and segment producers, so the more you contribute, the more we’ll reward you!

Not that we don’t appreciate your emails, cause we do! It’s just that we want to make the show more about you; the listener. Who knows what you’ll get, but I can promise this: The better the contribution the better the reward. Just make sure to include your address when you contribute, put it at the end of the segment/email/voicemail and we’ll edit it out before it goes live.

Informative with a touch of humor; we break down the news, reviews and tech tips that you want to hear.

News

- RA-tech posted a great 3 minute video review of the new KSC GBB MP7 – well, with no talking it’s more of a demonstration… but I digress – if you have been waiting for a gas MP7 and wanted to see what the $350US gets you, this is a good demo video.  Check it out here.

- Ok, for you CQB addicits out there, this is a gem of a new site…and it’s IN The STATES TOO!!!  See, us Americans get have a good site every once in a while!    Bottom line…60,000 square feet, prefessionally hosted events, and the first game is August 30th! Check them out at www.citadelairsoft.com

- For those of you that guessed Echo-1’s new gun was a M240B, you were correct.  Looks like it comes with a motorized box mag, top 20mm rail and all the trimmings.  Check out the real picture here.  While you are there you can see the teaser shots of their upcoming RPK and SCAR heavy AEGs too.

- Looks like Jing Gong (JG) has joind the ranks of AEG manufacturers making GBB rifles.  They have a new M4 out,no idea if it’s a copy of the WE or the WA (I’m guessing WA) but it has a plastic body.  The up side is that it only $85US before shipping at airsoftglobal.com While you are there, check out the Panzerfaust 40mm gas grenade launcher!

- The guys for AATV are back with a head-to-head review of the KSC (KWA) USP match and the Marui Five-Seven.  You have to love 2 Austrian guys bickering at each other speaking the Queen’s English with heavy accents.  I never miss a review from them. See it here or at their site.

Tech Tip

The 2nd entry in our “Project Frankengun” series covers the easiest way to gain accuracy and FPS in your AEG, by adding a tightbore barrel.  We picked up a Madbull 363mm Black Python II from our local shop.  the result; a big accuracy increase and a 8 FPS gain…from 332fps to 340fps with a .25g BB.  Not too shabby for 5 minutes work and $35US.  For the fill breakdown, checkout our Project Frankengun link here (link coming VERY SOON.)

Listener Segment

- A listener going by the alias “The Airsoft Taco”  sent us a bit of pre-release news that he found on the Arnie’s forums.  WE looks to have a GBB PDW in the works…OH YEAH!!!!

- Listener Ben is working on a great project that would be the saviour to any new airsofter, an “Airsoft for Dummies” book….  He even promised funny pictures for people like me that never learned how to read….     He’s got a ton of topics and is always looking for more.  Have an idea, shoot him an email at: AirsoftForDummiesBook@gmail.com

- Nate M wanted to chime in on on Steve’s discovery of a college airsoft team and to let us know that these are more common than we thought.  2 years ago one of his buddies started a Mississippi State Airsoft team as well, sponsored by the school.  They are running mostly JG’s and Echo1’s and travel to any major event in the area.  I  missed out in my college years…

- Listener Nathanael, that lives just down the road from the Nakotomie towers site (we mentioned last show), wanted to give us some history of how this cool site became available to airsofters and the history behind it.  This is why we love you guys, you keep us informed!

- Robert S. sent us (as promised) pics from the Fort Ord airsoft even heald just a short while back. These are shot by a professional photographer, Deborah Carrion If you like her work, I bet you can hire her to come and shoot your site too . Link over to the gallery here, and a link to her gallery of the past 7 years of playing at the site.

Airsoftology Episode #15: “Raining Cats and Dogs”

August 9th, 2009

118608main_thunderstorm

We’re back for a very rainy show #15 and Tim forgot about us. Yep, we’ve been recording the same day every 2 weeks since January and he dropped the ball this time. Our guess is too many shots to the head (or teeth) during the past skirmish, but we digress. Friend of the show Sam (AKA Optomis) from airsoft-barracks.com joins us in the 3rd seat to tell us about the trials of being an admin on an airsoft forum, and to give us the review of the show. Along with Sam, Steve and Jonathan hold down the fort and bring you another epic Airsoftology show.

We know we keep saying we want to hear from you, and you are sending us some good stuff! But…it’s time we raised the stakes a bit. We’re starting to collect swag from retailers, distributors and manufacturers alike and they are piling up. Oh yeah, we have our own Airsoftology logo patches on the way as well, too!

I guess what we are saying is that we want to reward your contribution to the show. Send us a good voicemail, make a show segment, or write that awesome email that tells everyone the ultimate airsoft secret and we’ll send you something in return.

We are really looking for callers and segment producers, so if you want the free stuff you have to step up!

News

- STEN Gun news…Steve has done his homework from the listener question last week and he now has not 1 but 2 Sten guns for us. The original from Viva http://www.vivaarms.com/ and the new one from AGM

- Got $7000.00 US burning a hole in your pocket??? Then you need to buy the most uber airsoft gun on the planet: The Super Fish! Here’s the thread on Airsoft Retreat and if you just have to have it, you can get it at Nashville Airsoft.

- NLairsoft.com got the scoop on a new gun manufacturer entering into the market, Ace Of Spades. (English translation option is at the top right of the page) These come from the same parent company of the much beloved Biovals, so you better believe that we’re eagerly awaiting the first reviews.

- For all of you out there dreaming of a pirate loadout (come on, we know you are out there somewhere) KTW has a new Flintlock pistol due on the market in September 2009. Boasting a 12 round magazine but a sub-impressive 0.4J muzzle velocity. Not impressive in terms of power, but who cares! Now you have an excuse to roll your “R’s” and yell “Avast Ye!” at the next game.

Review

Optomis, the uber-admin from the airsoft-barracks.com forums, joins us in studio to give us his very detailed review. He brings us the good, the bad, and the ugly on the G&P WOC GBB M4… After you listen, go check out the full review over at Airsoft Barracks.

Tech Tip

We talk about lowering resistance in airsoft guns this show, and we pick 2 easy ways to make this happen; Fuse removal and the addition of Deans connectors on your battery. To read more about fuse removal, Redwolf Airsoft has a great writeup here about fuses and here’s another one too. If you are looking for Deans you can find them here as well, these are a must have for any lower resistance setup.

Listener Segment

- Listener Stevie sent us a link over to probably the best airsoft related time-killer out there today: Pimp My Gun It’s basically an ap that lest you build your own gun online using every part from any gun in the library. You can even take a picture of your completed work to post on your favorite forum. Send us your shots, or better yet…post them on the airsoftology forum over at Airsoft Barracks!

- Listener Daniel sent us in this bit of info, although a tad old, we totally missed this one. Bioval is poised to release a “Golf Ball” BB called the BBBDimplex by early 2010. If you are a frequent forum visitor, you have no doubt seen a thread at some point touting the aerodynamic benefits of a dimpled bb. Check out the release info here.

- Sam brings up the super-expensive RA-Tech paintball BBs in development. These aren’t the Verdict markers, these are super-expensive ($1 a BB!!!!) mini paintballs. Check out the You Tube video here.

- Listeners Robert and Keith, both from the UK sent this to us after hearing our gleeful drool-fest over the new mall game site. First and only www.firstandonlyairsoft.com has a new site up their sleeve. Nakotomie towers… Yippie Kai Yay!!!

- Steve was looking at a new Daniel Defense AEG that listener Conner B. sent us, check out what he’s fawning over at Redwolf Airsoft here.
